This ORERYU WORLD T-shirt features “寺西閑心 中村芝翫” (Teranishi Kanshin Nakamura Shikan), a design attributed to Ochiai Yoshiiku. We carefully adapt the historic image for a clean, expressive print that can be worn and enjoyed today.

Hand-Traced for a Sharper Print

Every artwork in this collection is manually traced line by line by our studio. It is not simply enlarged from a small source image or passed through an automatic filter. Rebuilding the image by hand gives the print clearer contours and more controlled detail.

The Artist: Ochiai Yoshiiku

Ochiai Yoshiiku studied under Kuniyoshi and moved between actor portraits, warriors, satire, and early illustrated journalism. His career shows how ukiyo-e artists adapted their storytelling skills as Edo print culture developed into the new media of the Meiji period.

The Story Behind the Artist

Yoshiiku carried ukiyo-e storytelling into the newspaper age. He helped turn current events into illustrated news, proving that the skills used for actors, warriors, and satire could also explain a rapidly changing modern city. His career sits at the moment when the woodblock print began behaving like mass media.

The T-Shirt

The artwork is printed on the Bella + Canvas 3001 Unisex Staple T-Shirt, the same dependable Printful body used for our GOROKU collection. It is soft and lightweight, with a regular unisex fit and enough stretch for comfortable everyday wear.

Care Instructions

• Machine wash cold, inside out, on a gentle cycle with mild detergent.
• Do not use fabric softener.
• Tumble dry low or hang dry for the longest life.
• Cool iron inside out if needed. Do not iron directly over the print.
• Do not dry clean.
