Tsukioka Yoshitoshi was a student of Kuniyoshi and one of the last great masters of traditional ukiyo-e. His prints range from history and legend to ghosts and moonlit poetry, joining psychological drama with precise, expressive drawing.

The Story Behind the Artist

Late in life, Yoshitoshi created One Hundred Aspects of the Moon, using the same moon to connect warriors, poets, ghosts, and moments of silence across Japanese history. At a time when Tokyo was modernizing at great speed, he showed that old stories could still feel psychologically alive.
